Bumbo Chair recall

by Pascalle on October 25th, 2007

(Hey guys, I know this is a blog all about fashion & style, but I just wanted to bring your attention to a recall for a very popular baby item–and one that I professed love love love for on my personal blog back in March) but I wanted to pass the word anyway to all my Mommies, Mommies-to-be and family members!)

ETA:  It’s not being recalled as in “hurry up, return them NOW!”, the company is just halting sales for the meantime until they can update their pamphlets to indicate possible injuries to a child’s head if they are 1- left unattended on a high surface (which NO parent should be doing ANYYWAY!) and 2- stress that the chair is not intended to be restrictive in the case of ‘vigorous movement’.   In layman’s terms: once your kid is too active, don’t use the damn chair.  And REALLY, don’t ever put your child in the chair while on a table/elevated surface–especially unattended.

Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled Hot Mama-ness…

This recall floors me. Somehow the company that makes this chair is liable for parents being stupid! The recall is to get new warning stickers that say don’t place this chair on a table or other elvated surface as the child may fall out. We have 2 sons who have both used the Bumbo seat - ON THE FLOOR!! You should never leave your child unattended on top of a table or the like.

The seat was not recalled, the literature that goes with the seat was recalled. You can check out the company website to get all of the information you need without having to return anything at http://www.bumbosafety.com.
