Fall 2007 Trend - Wide leg pants

I know those three little words strike fear in many a fashionista, but it’s really, really not that bad. Just the idea of “wide leg” has people imagining bell bottom pants/jeans from the 70’s. And yeah, true, bell bottoms made a little comeback in the early 90’s, and even in the past year or so(for the ‘daring’ celebrity) but I’m not talking bell bottoms at all.

And no, I’m not talking about palazzo pants either. I’m talking honest to goodness NICE LOOKING, straight, wide leg trousers and/or denim for the fall.

Lately, the wide leg pants celebs have been wearing have been high-waisted:

Um. No. I’m not talking about those either. Matter of fact, I think I’ll pass on those (even though I know I highlighted Kim Kardashian’s high waisted trousers a few weeks ago, that outfit was an exception. Yeah. An exception. I’m allowed to do that, right?)

Liv Tyler had the right idea with her jean selection recently (she’s wearing 7 For All Mankind ‘Ginger’ pant in lightweight mercer - $143 USD.).

Keep in mind there’s a right and a wrong way to do the wide leg pants. Of course, my daring and super trendy Hot Mama-nistas can get super wide leg on and do it up, but for the most part, us normal, everyday Hot Mamas (is that an oxymoron?) should stick to widths that we are comfortable in. Basically you’re looking for a straight leg trouser that is just slightly wider than usual. This is not to be confused with bootcut or flare cuts.

One you find the perfect pair (or 2, or 3…heh, heh, heh) pair it with a tee, or a blouse, some adorable flats or pumps and you’re good to go. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with this one, ladies.

And of course, I never forget about my expecting Hot Mama’s. These pics are from maternity shop, Meoli and they are based in New Zealand. Unfortunately they don’t deliver outside of NZ (boo hoo!), but I wanted to put these pictures as a guideline for what to look for in your quest for stylish wide leg maternity pants. How amazing are these?! Could the styling be ANY cuter?!

The style is so cute on these models, it ALMOST makes me want to be pregnant again (note to Hubby: I said almost! Don’t get any flippin’ ideas…)

All in all, wide leg pants may not be for everyone, but honey, I’m all over it!
