Get Your Freekum Dress On…

by Pascalle on April 15th, 2008

I did it. I finally got to rock a ‘Freekum Dress’ as Ms (or is it MRS. now??) Beyonce Knowles (Carter???) says in her song, while I was in Bermuda.

Freekum Dress \freekum drehss\, noun:
1. A form-fitting dress, usually worn by a woman who needs to put her partner in check when they, um, “start actin’ up” or are “out doin’ wrong”. In other words, the dress used to wake up the fool who is taking you for granted and subtly remind them to open up their eyes and realize what they have right in front of them.

2. A form-fitting dress worn by a new mother, like Pascalle, who desperately needs a fashion ‘pick-me up’ from time to time to have the slightest inkling that maybe, just maybe, her body is almost what it used to be pre-pregnancy.

I’ll take definition # 2 for $500, Alex.

All I have to say is, American Apparel you have restored my faith (I’m wearing the Cotton Spandex Jersey Turtleneck Dress in Eggplant/Purple. Pumps from ZARA).

See how twisted happy I look? (Sidenote: I have noooo idea what I was thinking in this pic but hey, you know I’m not one to shy away from putting myself out there…)

(I’ve actually raved about American Apparel dresses a few times on this blog. Like here, here, and here.)

Now, it should be said that it’s reallyyyy easy to overdo a look like this. Nothing is more un-sexy than a woman who is teetering around in heels that are too high and a dress that she doesn’t feel comfortable in. You don’t HAVE to wear high-heel pumps with a dress like this. Flat sandals can look just as good (I had some flat sandals squished into my clutch that night–which I changed into soon after I took that pic I might add…)

Also, remember: less is more. I opted to wear a long-sleeve turtleneck dress since I had so much leg exposed. I added the large earrings, a clutch, and kept my make-up light (though I did accentuate my eye make-up).

Lastly, can I just add that a ‘freekum’ dress (since we’re calling it that for the purpose of this post) does NOT have to be short! It can defintely be mid-calf length or even long. It’s all about the attitude. If you feel good in what you have on, that feeling will radiate from you and that is sexy to the 10th power.

Now go out there and “get your Freekum Dress on”!
