Let’s Talk (Mommy & Maternity) Swimwear!
Don’t shudder…and don’t hit the little red “X in the top right corner of your screen, either. This isn’t as scary as you probably think it is. Yeah, yeah, I know you may not be too impressed with your post-childbirth body, and yeah, yeah, I know summer crept up on you way too fast and you didn’t have the time (nor the energy!) to hit the gym. There, there *patting reader on shoulder*. Mama P knows. Trust me. I. know. I’m in the struggle with you. But you do realize I’m here to help, right? Good! Let’s get crackin’…
Can I just express how marvelous an invention the TANKINI is?!?
The tankini (tank + bikini) gives any woman (pregnant or not) the ability to wear 2-piece swimsuit without having to expose their midsection. And, helloooo? How great is that?! Me personally, I was so proud of my (4-5 month) pregnant belly last summer, I showed it off whenever I could. I was still able to fit wear my old bikinis and didn’t much care who thought what. But that’s me. Not all of the Mommies-To-Be out there feel the same way, and if you’re one of them and don’t feel like going through the hassle of squeezing into a one-piece, then the tankini is for you!
The above tankini is the Prego Maternity Solid Tie Halter on sale now at Tummy Style for $68.00 USD. It also comes in pink. I found a few other adorable styles at Tummy Style (which specializes in maternity and nursing-mother swimwear) and the prices are reasonable. Check these out:
Now for us Mommies who have already given birth but are not about to suffer through a hot summer with out a dip in the pool/ocean, I have some styles for you too. It’s just a matter of finding a tankini or bathing suit that’s going to cover up any parts you are not comfortable with. For me, it’s my belly. And it’s not because it’s still big, but because it has been 6 1/2 months since the birth of my son and I am still waiting for that blasted vertical dark line (the “linea negra“) to magically disappear. (Does it EVER go away!? Gosh!) *Sigh* But I digress. Here are some cute long top/tankini styles that I found for us:
For the Sexy Hot Mamas (yes, that includes YOU), may I present you with some Vicki’s (aka Victoria’s Secret)?
How about some styles from Juicy Couture for my High Fashion Mommy-nistas?
And for my fellow Mommies on a Budget (*raising my own hand*) Here are a few styles from Fashion Bug (which can also be for Mommies who are not comfortable in wearing bikini cut bottoms and/or like to keep their hips covered a bit):
Add some supersized sunglasses, a fabu beach(slash DIAPER) bag (ha!) and voila! You’re all set.
See you at the beach Hot Mama!

Well they do say 9 months to get up (during pregnancy) and 9 months to get back to what you were pre-pregnancy (kinda, sorta). :-P
