My Corset Dress Semi-Fiasco

by Pascalle on January 3rd, 2008

Hey. At least I tried. My birthday was last week and as I’d been telling you about, I crashed a private loft party and declared it my official birthday party celebration since I didn’t get the chance to celebrate last year (cuz well, you know, having a 2 week old at home and being a lactating brand new mom…well, you get the idea, right? Going out to party wasn’t exactly a priority at the time, ya dig?)

Anyhoo, Hubby had a great time with his ‘boys’, and I had a great time with my ‘girls’ as my eyes would so clearly indicate in the pictures (damn cameras, they really don’t LIE do they???? And wow, I had no idea I KEPT a drink in my hand damn near the entire night! *shaking my head*)

Wow. *Clearing throat* OK.

As far as my makeup was concerned, I wanted a dramatic effect since it was nighttime, and usually, I’m a ’smoky eye’ fanatic for nighttime outtings, but for this event, wanted to switch it up a bit. I tried to go for a gold eye look to match my jewelry, but my gold makeup wound up being a bit too subdued (click pic to zoom):

It looked great in my bathroom mirror but once I left the house, it looked almost as if I had no makeup on at all! Ah, well. I’ll know better for next time. But I’m still satisfied with it nevertheless. For my nails, I wore black polish.

My hair. I wash & blow dried it. Then used a large barrel curling iron to make large curls. Then I twisted those curls into little ‘hair buns’ all over my head and left it alone for about 2-3 hours. Once I was dressed I unwound the buns and shook it loose. Took me HOURS of work and all of my curls fell flat as soon as I stepped outside. See the rest of the pics below. *Loud sigh* I’m so through with my damn hair!!!!! ARGH.

Now, for my dress. THE dress. Well. Let me tell you how I got my dress for $40-friggin’-bucks on post-Christmas sale from ZARA.

I. LOVE. ZARA. Period. So as you’re reading this you’re wondering, “everything sounds good so far, where does the fiasco part come in?” Well, the dress was great (and nevermind my lil’ post-baby pouch), the issue was that since I no longer have ‘boobies’ (I’m going to blame the 1 year of breastfeeding that I did, dammit. More on that another day…), the corset bra I wore underneath really had nothing to hold ON to, therefore the dress kept sliding up, brining the bust portion to wound up around my damn neck (scroll up and look at the previous pics). Not. Hot.

But it is what it is. I still love the dress. I just need to wear the right bra with it next time, and maybe adjust the straps to a better length too.

All in all it was fun. I definitely had a blast and we all partied like rock stars…
