Shoe Hotness : Alicia Keys

I’m loving these pumps Alicia Keys had on at today’s taping of The David Letterman Show in NYCwennphotos861789-letterman-celebs-2_nc1.jpgStraight fiya!  Don’t know who makes ‘em, as usual, it probably doesn’t matter ‘cuz yours truly can’t afford ‘em, but we can look and admire from afar… Le sigh…  wennphotos861790-letterman-celebs-2_nc.jpgAnd the dress she’s wearing aint bad either.  I’m glad to see Alicia’s fully embraced her “womanly-ness” (yeah another one of my made up words.  I think?) and has a nice freekum dress on to show off her curves.  Work it, girl.  I ain’t mad at’cha. Want a similar dress?  Check out some previous posts I did on American Apparel dresses by clicking here and here.  (All images courtesy of: Newscom)

Jada Pinkett-Smith’s New Haircut - Yea or Nay?

Now, you gals know I’m all for the asymmetrical bobs. Hell, I’ve been thinking about getting one for myself since Rihanna came out with hers when she premiered her new “bad girl” look in the Umbrella video. But it seems celebs all over the place are going shorter, which is great, but what happens when a hair trend goes too far?

I was loving Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bob this past February:

So um..what happened here (Jada at Victoria Beckham’s recent bday party)?

Now, let’s remember I’m all for originality and individuality. And if I remember correctly Jada is in a heavy metal band (which I think is the coolest thing in the world–ROCK CHICKS UNITE!! :) But um.. oh I don’t know what to make of it..

What say YOU? Yea or Nay?

Get Your Freekum Dress On…

I did it. I finally got to rock a ‘Freekum Dress’ as Ms (or is it MRS. now??) Beyonce Knowles (Carter???) says in her song, while I was in Bermuda.

Freekum Dress \freekum drehss\, noun:
1. A form-fitting dress, usually worn by a woman who needs to put her partner in check when they, um, “start actin’ up” or are “out doin’ wrong”. In other words, the dress used to wake up the fool who is taking you for granted and subtly remind them to open up their eyes and realize what they have right in front of them.

2. A form-fitting dress worn by a new mother, like Pascalle, who desperately needs a fashion ‘pick-me up’ from time to time to have the slightest inkling that maybe, just maybe, her body is almost what it used to be pre-pregnancy.

I’ll take definition # 2 for $500, Alex.

All I have to say is, American Apparel you have restored my faith (I’m wearing the Cotton Spandex Jersey Turtleneck Dress in Eggplant/Purple. Pumps from ZARA).
get-your-freekum-dress-on.jpg

See how twisted happy I look? (Sidenote: I have noooo idea what I was thinking in this pic but hey, you know I’m not one to shy away from putting myself out there…)

aa-cotton-spandex-jersey-turtleneck-dress-eggplant.jpg

(I’ve actually raved about American Apparel dresses a few times on this blog. Like here, here, and here.)

Now, it should be said that it’s reallyyyy easy to overdo a look like this. Nothing is more un-sexy than a woman who is teetering around in heels that are too high and a dress that she doesn’t feel comfortable in. You don’t HAVE to wear high-heel pumps with a dress like this. Flat sandals can look just as good (I had some flat sandals squished into my clutch that night–which I changed into soon after I took that pic I might add…)

Also, remember: less is more. I opted to wear a long-sleeve turtleneck dress since I had so much leg exposed. I added the large earrings, a clutch, and kept my make-up light (though I did accentuate my eye make-up).

Lastly, can I just add that a ‘freekum’ dress (since we’re calling it that for the purpose of this post) does NOT have to be short! It can defintely be mid-calf length or even long. It’s all about the attitude. If you feel good in what you have on, that feeling will radiate from you and that is sexy to the 10th power.

Now go out there and “get your Freekum Dress on”!

NYX Cosmetics Trio Eyeshadow: Product Review

Hey everyone! So sorry for the delay is posting lately. As most of you who read Hot Mama Daily routinely know, I had a trip to Bermuda planned with some girlfriends and I am pleased to say we’ve just returned and had a faaaaaaabulous time. Can I tell you, we shut that little island DOWWWNNN! Whoo! It was a blast. I will definitely recommend Bermuda to anyone who will listen. Beautiful island filled with beautiful, kind-hearted people.

Where are the pictures of my trip you ask? Yeah, yeah, I’ll get to some tame pictures of my trip eventually, and will try to post some throughout the week. Deal? Good.

So back to business. I’m refreshed and ready to get back to work for you gals. First item to tackle today, a quick review of a brand I’d never heard of before my trip to Bermuda, NYX Cosmetics.

nyx_logo.gif

At first glance you’d think the name stands for something regarding New York (like I sure did–we native New Yorkers always things it’s about us, don’t we? Tee hee!) but it’s not. The company originated in Los Angeles and the name NYX is Greek–NYX was the ancient Greek goddess who ruled the night. Love that!

A near and dear friend of mine, Lili (who is also a make-up artist and fellow blogger) introduced me to NYX’s Trio Eyeshadow in shade TS6 (Purple, Deep Purple, Prune) and I. Fell. In. Love.

nyx-ts6.jpg

My problem with most eyeshadows (I’m usually a Cover Girl eyeshadow addict) is that they are usually too light for nighttime wear. When going out at night I sometimes want a dramatic effect for my eyes. I want them to pop. Knowing Lili had an arsenal of makeup in her kit, I asked her if she had some purple eyeshadow she could lend me since I wasn’t happy with the results of my eyeshadow. She handed me her NYX TS6 and the rest is beauty history. It was super easy to apply and had a great texture. Best of all, it last the whole night without creasing and/or fading. Read More

Must-Have Spring Accessory: The Trench Coat

I won’t even make this a long post, but it has to be said. There’s nothing sexier than a woman in a trench coat. I’m sure I’ve said this before.

Either with some hot to death pumps or with some adorable rain boots, even some on-point flats, it’s a must. I wore mine today for the first time this season. I don’t know what it is…but I just feel so….official in it.

Here’s a few I found while browsing:

American Living Lightweight Trench - on sale $78.00 USD

Spiegel Signature Luxe Linen Collection: Trench-Style Coat $89.00 USD

Newport News double-breasted trench coat $99.00-$109.00 USD

Comfy Chic: Thong Sandals

Add some adorable, lightweight thong sandals to complete an easy, carefree spring/summer look.  They look great with jeans or some maybe some wide leg trousers.   Even better at a trip to the beach.

Totally grown and sexy.

Macy*s has some cute ones on their site:

Style & Co. “Persia” Thong - $39.00 USD

macy-thong-sandal.tif

Michael Kors “MK Jelly” Thong - $49.00 USD

macys-michael-kors-jelly-thong-sandal.tif

But you can find some in all prices ranges.  Found a pair on clearance (my favorite word) at Target for $7.99 USD (not a typo!)

Fab Hot Mama Daily reader BrwnChik passed the word of one of Aldo’s new pumps just in time for Spring 2008.

Introducing Aldo’s “AtlanticCity” pump

Oh so lovely… but… at $110.00 a pop, I’ll have to wait til those puppies go on sale.

Le sigh….

Thanks BrwnChik!!
